Sachin hits back at his critics

India's most prolific batsman Sachin Tendulkar claims his recent cautious batting approach is best suited to the team's current needs.
Tendulkar, who burst onto the international scene as a precocious 16-year-old in 1989, has been criticised for not playing his natural attacking game over the last year. The 32-year-old, however, stressed that the team now require him to play more responsible innings.

"I know what my job is. As long as I am convinced I have done my job honestly, why should I lose sleep over what people have to say about my cricket," Tendulkar told The Hindu newspaper.

"Please to read (sic) my role and contribution in a team where I am the most senior player."

The world's highest one-day international run-scorer also believes that a change in his batting technique is inevitable the longer his career spans.

"I batted with a certain style when I was 16. At 20, I batted differently. It changes again when I was 25 and again when I turned 30," he added.

"It's a process everyone experiences. In the past too, batsmen have made changes when compelled by factors like age. I can't fight these changes, they are natural."
