Pakistan dominate day 2

Younis Khan and Yousuf Youhana hit unbeaten centuries as Pakistan made a spirited reply to India's 407 all out on the second day in Calcutta.

The tourists were 273-2 at close of play with Younis on 108 and Youhana striking the last ball of the day for four to reach 101 not out.

The pair shared a stand of 203 after Irfan Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji had dismissed the openers.

India had earlier added 63 to their overnight score of 344-6.

Dinesh Karthik (28), Pathan and Balaji fell in quick succession before an enterprising last-wicket stand of 44 between Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble took the total past 400.

Karthik was run out by Mohammad Khalil after hesitating over a single, Balaji was bowled for three by Afridi's quicker ball and Pathan was taken at silly point for eight.

All-rounder Abdul Razzaq ended the innings half an hour before lunch when he won an lbw decision against Harbhajan (27), leaving Kumble unbeaten on 21.

Razzaq finished with 3-62, while leg-spinners Afridi and Kaneria returned figures of 3-80 and 3-136.

Pakistan only had five overs to survive before the interval but Afridi signalled his intentions with four boundaries and he continued in the same vein following the re-start.

He added three more as he progressed to 29 off 21 balls, while partner Taufeeq Umar benefitted from lapses by the slip cordon as Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag dropped him on nought and one.

Sachin Tendulkar finally showed a safe pair of hands at mid-on as he ended Afridi's assault and Umar followed for 18 with the score on 70 when he tried to turn Balaji away over square leg and Harbhajan leapt to take the chance.

The pressure was on Younis after a double failure in the first Test at Mohali but the Pakistan vice-captain showed few signs of nerves as he cruised to a 69-ball half century.

He had an anxious moment on 68 when he was almost run out as wicket-keeper Karthik's throw just missed the stumps.

But his only false stroke was the one which brought his hundred as he attempted to pull a short ball and top edged it away to the third man boundary.

It looked as if Youhana would settle for keeping his wicket intact until the close but a loose final over from off-spinner Harbhajan have him the opportunity to achieve his 13th Test century.

The third ball was despatched through square leg and Harbhajan strayed onto leg stump again with his final delivery, which Youhana whipped away to deep mid-wicket for his 13th four.
